Golden Globes 2024: Nominations for TV and movies revealed

Following the end of the protracted actors' and writers' strikes that forced a halt to production earlier this year, the Golden Globes are the first major ceremony to reveal its shortlist ahead of the 2024 awards season.

On Sunday, January 7, the 81st Golden Globe Awards ceremony will reveal the winners.

The Globes, which have a new owner after criticism over a lack of diversity in the organization led to the event being held behind closed doors in 2022, will have a new look for the event next year.

In January of 2023, the stars returned for the show. Not to be outdone, host and comedian Jerrod Carmichael addressed the controversy early in his monologue, beginning, "I'll tell you why I'm here - I'm here because I'm black."

The Globes are still searching for a host after comedian Chris Rock and four other A-list comedic actors turned down invitations to lead the ceremony, so the controversy hasn't entirely disappeared, according to CNN.

Shortly after the previous ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which had organized it, was closed.

Dick Clark Productions (DCP) and Eldridge Industries acquired the Golden Globe assets together. It was announced in October that 300 journalists from various countries, such as Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Cameroon, had been admitted as new members.

"The new breakdown is 47% female, and 60% racially and ethnically diverse, with 26.3% Latinx, 13.3% Asian, 11% Black, 9% Middle Eastern," according to a press release.
